Strategies to support pupils with PDA in a mainstream environment. Pathological Demand Avoidance is considered to be part of the autism spectrum, however the strategies and interventions that help a person with PDA differ to those that benefit others on the autism spectrum. In this course we will consider how the main features of PDA differ from autism and learn strategies to support the anxiety, control and avoidance that can make navigation through the school day difficult. At the end of the course you wil:
  • be able to recognise the main features of PDA.
  • further your understanding of why a child with PDA resists everyday demands.
  • be able to adapt teaching approaches to support a child with PDA to cope better in the mainstream school environment.
